SALON Seattle 2014

About The International Decorative Painter's SALON

The International Decorative Painter’s Salon is a unique organization that each year brings together over 100 premier decorative painters from around the world. Participants from twenty-five countries including Master Dutch Painters, four Best Craftsmen in France Award Winners, published authors, Smithsonian educators, and some of Britain’s most decorated painters have attended these gatherings to bring their work and knowledge to Salon through sharing of technique, information and vision.

Since 1996 this International group of participants has joined together to exhibit their work, demonstrate old and new techniques, and to exchange ideas and inspiration in support of decorative painting. Past salons have been held in Japan, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Sweden, England, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Italy and the United States. US cities have included Atlanta, San Antonio, Chicago, Philadelphia and, this year, Seattle. I have personally participated in 14 Salons.

These Master Craftsmen enjoy the unique community-oriented aspect of the event with the participation of prospective art students, fellow trade members, architects, designers and the public alike. Along with live painting demonstrations, the participants collectively complete a large community-themed mural that remains to best serve the community in the participatory city, with a designated recipient.

The purpose of the Salon is to keep the art of decorative painting alive, create public awareness, maintain and elevate the level of skill of this ancient craft. Participants vest their respective resources and time voluntarily to attend this renowned event each year as a reflection of their passion for the craft and to share their knowledge.

Currently committed sponsors include: MOHAI, Jones Soda, Sound Transit, Gage Academy of Art, Le Grand Bistro, Conner Homes, Art for Culture, and Golden Artist Colors, Inc.
