Technique using Smooth Translucent Texture

Toulouse-Lautrec Inspiration

While visiting the Chicago Art Institute and regarding the paintings by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, I saw a painting surface very similar to our Venetian Plaster wall treatments. These were oil paintings with a ground so tightly applied that it appeared mottled and burnished in places.

On top of this surface, dancers were drawn with quick marks of the oil paint.

This hand-painted quality attracted me and thus the finish included here was created.
