Golden Artist Colors has attended IDAL, the convention of the International Decorative Artisan League (formerly SALI), since 1990. We've been a part of the growth and the change, enjoying meeting new faces and learning from the wealth of experience and knowlege of the artisans who gather each year in different cities around the country.

For some instructors, teaching at IDAL is an integral part of their business model and revenues. However, it usually takes years to build a following that results in sold-out classes. For others, teaching is not necessarily a "profit center" though, it can be a self-supporting, educational investment in oneself. Most instructors price out their workshops to cover all of their expenses to attend the event. Even if the class only ends up being "revenue neutral", what the instructor gains through the networking with other artisans, learning what's new from the manufacturers on the expo floor, and the knowledge shared during the workshop makes the total IDAL experience one of great profit!

Further, teaching at IDAL can also be a great marketing tool at home for any instructor whether they own a school or want to increase credibility with their decorative painting clientele. Carolyn Blahosky, IDAL Education Chair, stated:
“The IDAL Convention is an excellent marketing tool and a great way to give students a taste of your teaching magnitude. Give prospective students a tantalizing taste of what they can accomplish if they take additional workshops with you. Treat this marketing tool as you would any other marketing you do for yourself, for your school or business and include this in your annual budget.”

For manufacturers like Golden, participating in IDAL’s workshops is an effective way to stay in close contact with our customers and to introduce our products to newcomers to the industry. "In every workshop I've given, I have gained from the individuals who signed up to learn more about the materials that Golden produces.", says Lori Wilson, Product Application Specialist at Golden Artist Colors. “The experience has sharpened my teaching skills, and I’ve come away with invaluable networking contacts within the industry, as well.”

IDAL instructors who wish to use Golden products in their workshops are welcome to contact us if they have a need for detailed technical information and support.
